Part II

Well, I have been thinking of the adventure of food. I think back to my pantry. I had it fully stocked, as well as the freezer etc. If I needed to cook, bake something there was enough ingredients to pull of something. Plenty of cans of tuna, pasta, soups etc. Not to mention a full kitchen of every type of kitchen tool, full set of dishes, serving platters, cooking gadgets. I had everything I could possibly need. I could wait a full week to use up the dishes to run the dishwasher. And I never lacked for anything.

Well here is the new simplified reality. 2 of everything. 2 plates, 2 forks, spoons, knives and I only have enough of what is needed for the week. Frequent trips to the corner market. However, that is no guarantee that they will have what I am looking for or that it will be with a decent expiration date. So it is a new simplicity to have only what I need and not any more and to live day to day....daily bread (always hoping that the Bimbo wholewheat bread is in stock). It is a little more challenging to eat healthily as I had been trying to do last year. More whole foods, natural ingredients, soy products. The markets are very small and have few options, not the ailses and ailes of every product. 30 different cereals, juices everything there is an excess of options. So this is down to 1 or 2 options. Makes choosing a lot easier.

So, I get bread, avocados, apples and bananas, 2 liter bottle of drinking water, etc. for the week. And other things as needed. Not a ton of excess on hand. It really changes one´s thinking. Not relying on a huge supermarket or a stockpile of food. More in the moment and day to day. This may change over time, but for now it is a new experience. It also forces me to wash the dishes right after I use them, which is not something I ever did before. Anyway, here are some brief thoughts on simplicity. Having just what you need and not an excessive amount of food. Interesting if we all did that what would happen. Dunno.
