A fabulous dinner made by fantastic friends. It was such a wonderful way to celebrate. What an amazing blessing to have such people in our lives.
Arriving during the biggest snowstorm to hit DC. Cold temperatures, snow and ice but it was beautiful and made for a very memorable time. Richard was able to see the White House in person. His movies becoming reality.
We took a day trip to Baltimore. He was fascinated by the inlet frozen with ice and we survived all the cold temps thanks to the parkas from the McCarty's. It was a beautiful day.
Departing Lima and 85+ degree weather...ciao. Richi's first trip out of Peru and to the USA.
Friday Feb 12th we arrived at Dulles airport greeting by our dearest friends Bob and Maggie. Richard took to them immediately and was so impressed with the orderly traffic, the snow but really surprised by the distances between everything. We arrived Lima to San Salvador to DC without incident and early even. From that day on everything went smoothly to give us a dream vacation and experience. It was an overwhelming blessing.
On Sat we too the metro into DC and started the tourist thing. We walked around the major monuments and practically skated down the mall as the sidewalks were pure ice. We held on to each other to stay upright and it was very comical and took us forever. Then we did a tour of the Holocaust Musuem and headed back to the McCarty's for an amazing homecooked meal fit for royalty made by Matthew and Ela. It was fantastic and reminded me of Thanksgiving, which I didn't get to have this year. Richard loved meeting people in person and getting to know all the amazing people I know. It was a fantastic day and I was exhausted.
On Sunday (valentine's day) we went to Church and then to Baltimore for the day at the inner harbor. We had a lovely lunch at pizzeria Uno, have to learn about deep dish of course. Then we went to the National Aquarium. The dolphin show, all the exhibits and just really had a lovely day.
Monday and Tuesday we went back into DC to do more sightseeing. It was still very cold and snowy, but we were not to be deterred. A lot of walking that really did me in, but a great experience. We made it to a few smithsonian museums...Native American (which actually covers all the americas) where we had a fantastic lunch with buffalo burgers and chili, we saw the American History Museum and of course the Air and Space Museum. They were full days, but a wonderful experience. People were so kind and gracious and because it was Feb we didn't have to battle all the crowds, which made it an even better time.
We were sad to leave our wonderful friends the McCartys. It was fantastic to spend time with them and to introduce our nations capital to Richard. He loved every minute of it as did I! I'm sure we'll be back if we can.
