So, as I wrote before. Everything is a learning experience here. No matter how many times I have moved in my life before, I have to learn it all over again. Where to get boxes (at least they are used and less expensive here). How to get some form of transportation (not a uhaul or moving van service) and on and on. In addition to all of that, it seems there is paperwork (big surprise) that has to be done to leave one province to another.
When I got back to the house yesterday it was overwhelming. We worked on cleaning the upstairs when we got back from our month away, but nothing with the downstairs. Richard was a very impressive bathroom cleaner! Then I was gone most of this week in Tacna and so I had really let the downstairs go. There is always wind and dust here and it always finds its way in through the gap under the front door, the gap in the back sliding door and the gap in the windows. We have little gaps everywhere and windows don't have screens and we leave doors/windown open cause....it's hot in summer. Anyway, nothing is in order, it's dusty and... it drives me crazy. I mean we are moving, what's the sense of tidying up.
Anyway, thank goodness for kind inlaws. Last night when I got home from Tacna (alone because Richi went to Moquegua for the weekend for his business course) I noticed a light flickering inside the house. I went to the back door and saw the tv was on inside.......odd. Then I tried to enter. The key went in and I turned the lock twice and then it wouldn't go anymore. I tried and tried. Couldn't get the door open. Long story short, my inlaws came down to try to help me. (I relaxed about the tv when I remembered it "spontaneously" turned on a couple of weeks ago. Richard is convinced it's something I did with the programming to record my programs (It's NOT!) Anyway, the owner came home during this time and she too tried. We finally got into the house, but the key really wasn't working well. (I also gave her the bad news that we would be leaving in 10 days, surprise! ) Anyway, we finally figured out the key wasn't an exact copy and that's why it's been giving me trouble all this time. Now we figure it out. These things....urg.
Anyway, so since my inlaws were there, I filled them in on our plans. So, I have a general idea about the boxes, and today Richi's Dad brought me a few to get started (today being Sunday Mar 27th). I have 5 done so far and it is a drop in the ocean, but progress is progress right? Richard came home and we went up to his parents for lunch. While there I worked on getting Richad to focus on a few details. He lives in the moment and waits to figure things out to the last second. I just can't do this all the time. He left early Mon am, and I won't see him until Saturday night and then leaves again Mon and we move on Thurs. My dear husband has many talents, but organizing is not one of them and he tends to leave things until the last minute and well....I let a lot of things go in the advanced prep/organization area....10 days is barely enough and I have to do most everything and...it's going to be Holy Week and everyplace is closed for Thurs/Friday to be with family. Anyway, Richard's Dad knew someone who had a large truck that might work and such and so on and.....which of course is always how things work. It's not....let's call a moving company or Uhaul etc and reserve a truck etc. oh no....So with a little prodding to get something concrete...the guy across the street has a couple of large type trucks and he has done it before and was home. So Richard could talk to him directly and work out a deal. Phew......just what I wanted to get real information from a real person and know what we are doing...sorta. The illusion of progress and control.
The paperwork is another thing. I have to go to a police station and ask them for a form to make a payment for the moving forms. I pay a very small fee at the national bank and then go back to the station I think. I need to have exact details of the driver, the truck and on and on. Then I also need to make a manifest list of everything we are taking. The TV size and make and all our large items and I need the orignal receipts for all these things. How many boxes of x, y, z. As I said, there is a learning curve. So, I am going to work on this ASAP to avoid possible problems. I'm tired....to be continued.
