So, I am now in San Salvador and life continues to be incredibly interesting. Moment by moment. So another story to relay. When I was traveling from San Sal to Guate on the Ticabus, I met a guy from Seattle. His name is Don Sly. We had a few friends in common. He was coming back after driving a very loaded down pickup from Seattle to El Sal to give to a community he has been working with for several year. Crazy old guy! Anyway, we talked for a while and he told me I should meet his friends etc. I have always held Archbishop Romero as one of my hero´s and that is really what I wanted to experience in San Sal. So he gave me all the contact info he had etc.
Well, here is the situation. He man he told me to meet is Jose "Chencho" Alas. He was the 2nd priest that Romero ordained. He was a good friend and counsel to him. He lived through the war and has been continuing the mission since then. He is now 73. He happened to be in town today and agreed to meet me. So today was amazing. I got a first hand tour of Romero´s house, where he died, his crypt at the cathedral and many more stories. We enjoyed our time together and so I ended up spending the entire day with him. It was wild. He had errands to do. He had flipped his car in an accident in Honduras last month and needed to do some more repairs. However, instead of one shop to fix it all, we went from store to store along this avenue fixing various things. I bought him lunch at a local comedor and we waited for maybe 3 hours or more. It was great time to chat about all sorts of things. He is an amazing man. Still full of life, but getting tired I sensed...no kidding. He has started amazing projects and is working on a new one for a Peace project. Check it all out. www.fssca.net It is a broad reaching series of projects in all areas of life. The environment, humanity etc. He is no longer a priest. He is married and has 3 very successful children. He has studied in Canada, Rome, Georgetown. It was so fun and a great blessing. It doesn´t end there however. The next step is tomorrow. I will be going to the area where all his projects are functioning near the ocean in Bajo Lempa. I will tell you more after this. I am still processing everything. My life is very full and I feel I can barely keep up. It takes so much to accomplish each day, but I learn more about myself and I continue to stay open to whatever comes my way. I mean really, to ranomnly meet Don and then Chencho and all. Only the divine right? Thanks so much for your emails and your prayers and support. I´m sorry I couldn´t write each of you, but the computer where I am staying is free, but a really crappy keyboard and very slow. I am now paying across the street. Love, love, Love to all.
