July 2007, I quit my current job at BKHS. After 13 years of full time ministry in the Catholic Church, I put my possessions in storage, traveled Latin America. It was a grand adventure and a lesson in trust and faith. The story unfolds as I married Richard Zavaleta July 09 and I am now living in Peru and we are awaiting our first child in June 2010. This blog contains my adventures, observations and experiences.

Not So Great Day
Crazy how things can change so quickly. I was feeling so confident and things were going so well and then bam....a 9 hour bus ride from Guat City to Flores and somehow my passport, money, traveler's check, immuz card etc was stolen or lost. Crazy stuff. I didn't realize it until we were in the middle of nowhere at Tikal park. It is long gone. I composed myself and made it through the 4 hour tour. My parents, the great champions they are have helped me figure out what to do and hopefully I will get a new passport tomorrow. It really threw me for a loop. I was already exhausted and foggy and then that, but I am not going to let it deter me. Even though I was very tempted to come home early. I feel I should finish this leg of my journey. Prayers for continued safety would be greatly appreciated. Love to all.

I am soo sorry Laura! Thank goodness for parents! I am 40 and still need them all the time. I have loved reading your blog (and your poetry), but have LOVED the pictures. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.

Oh Laura, I am so sorry to hear about that. Praying for you. Hope this bad person/incident will not end your dream sabbatical.
I am sick when I read what happened and how you were feeling when you wrote. My hope is that in the ensuing days God has met you in a new way and that fresh hope is yours. It is interesting that you feel led to finish this leg of the journey. Certainly you continue to be in my prayers for many many things! God double bless you my friend!
