Ancient Lake
Diamond bounce upon her waves, announcing her great wealth.
Three sleeping peaks stand, centurions of her mysteries.
Winds gentle tickle her surface nudgingly ashore.
What is her secret?
She embraces surrounding faces and gathers them in her mantle.
Protecting all from senseless violence,
singing sweetly of life's abundant grace.
Walk slowly,
tread lightly,
move peacefully.
Her serenity washes wounds, stripping false self bare.
Breathe deeply,
inhale gently, choose wisely.
I never tire of your intoxicating beauty.
Reciprocity
Must we need each other?
What more do you sell than your wares?
What more do I purchase than your product?
Exchange currency and craft.
We each have need, have want.
What of our souls?
We are equal.
Both poor, both rich, both in love.
In another time, another place, if we both met
would would buy or sell or need?
Traveler's Tale
I rushed upon the day, greeting her with urgency.
Only basic needs would be accomplished today.
To eat, to drink, to move upon the earth.
A flash of lightening across a dark and cloudy sky;
I travel leaving no imprint.
One bed, one meal, one face like another.
I was never there, nothing to recall.
The poignant traveler's tale.
I walked amidst the lush and lovely land;
soaking in sweet hue and fragrance;
feasting upon ambient conversation of bird, water, flora and fauna.
A kind word and smile of recognition as we pass yet again.
We have absorbed one another,
Your dew and mine.
Not quite a well-worn shoe, but alas a deeper tread.
I know more of your secret charms and oddities
and you my other life and character see.
Rush, rush if you must, but sojourn while you can.
The tale is best told in slow, hushed, unrushed tones
that leave you yearning more.
