Remembering Romero

Romeros Motto "I will with the church"

Outside the Cathedral. A great work of an indigenous man that tells a story.

inside his garage. now has murals of his life.

Photos taken right after he was shot. He lived for only 15 or so minutes.

His bedroom, just as he left it. For an Archbishop he had a very simple space.

A priest who was a student of Chenchos. He was murdered too.

The altar of the church where he was murdered. His house was on the same grounds. The day I visited was the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

He is buried below this beautiful art piece. It was commissioned for the 25th anniversary of his death. The 4 evangelists are in the 4 corners.

outside his house, which is now a museum, taken care of by the same order of sisters.

The clothes he was wearing when shot. You can see 2 bullet holes in the shirt.

His garments, stained with blood.

Many of his documents, licenses etc.

Unfortunately, a fuzzy photo of Chencho. Living history. The radio was also a recorder where he recorded his messages that were transmitted. Calling for peace and the end of the killing. He made his final speech to the army calling for them to stop killing their own people, their brothers and sisters. He was killed the next day, a Monday.

Here are some photos from today. Some are hard to see because it was behind glass, but you get the general idea. I think it will stay with me for a long time. I will keep processing. I think what I am pondering right now is modern day prophets. Who are they, where are they and what is asked of me...what am I to do with this life I have been given.
