Photo of the group who went to the Sound of Music Dinner Theatre thanks to the McCartys. It was amazing. From the right me, Maggie, Maggies mom Cleo, Chris and Phil (who came for the Losers Party) Bobs daughter and her husband, and Bob. We had a great time, but no singing along was allowed, which is just as well I guess, but I hummed it in my head.Lima, Peru
Well, the story continues to get interesting at every turn. I am just trying to have something for you to enjoy reading. So, yesterday was a long, long day. Part of it was because of my excellent thrify skills. If you want to find the cheapest place to fly somewhere--Im your girl. To save about $250 I did the following. I left out of BWI at 950 am to Ft. Laurderdale, using a free Soutwest oneway ticket. I arrive at 1230pm and got my bag and took a shuttle to the train station and another shuttle to Miami airport. I arrived about 230pm for my 1130pm flight to Lima.
For some reason when I arrive it seems as if the entire world wanted to fly on American Air to somewhere. It was chaotic and insane. It was a disorganized mess. I survived checkin and considered not checking my bag, but with all the extra time in the airport, I didnt want to lug it around. However, it had to go to this bag screening area, which was another long line and mess of people. I was really nervous as I handed it to the guy who just threw it over in a corner of other bags that were rapidly piling up. They were way behind. I actually stopped to look at my bag and wondered, will you make it to Lima. We looking longingly at one another, but I decide that they had plenty to time to get it on the plane and it would be fine. So, then I braved another throng of people at security. Honestly, what was going on in the middle of the day on a Tuesday, I will never know. I really dislike Miami International. It is a old, crappy airport and I got to spend the day there, superfunforme. So I went in search of food. I walked for an hour to almost every terminal. I encountered 1 restaurant, a few fast food places....pitful. I went back to the restaurant and ordered something that turned out not to be what I wanted and then watched the New Hampshire stinky primary unfold for a bit on CNN. Sorry if you are ridulous enough to support Hilary, but I was hoping for a sure deafeat of her campaign, oh well.
Anyway, I survived the airport through reading, walking, watching....what more could I do. I got into Lima at 530am this morning after maybe 3.5 hours of sleep on the plane. Right now I have that fuzzyhead feeling when you are sorely lacking sleep. Anyway, after customs I went over to baggage to wait for my backpack...which never arrived. Yes, thats right. It didnt come. They said it will be here tonight at 11pm, but that I have to wait until tomorrow morning when I fly out to Cuzco to hopefully get it. So, luckily I sprayed a ton of various perfumes all over me from my various times to the Duty Free shops while I was walking around killing time. So we will really find out how little I can survive on as I have the clothes on my back and not much else.
On a bright note, the guy was there to get me at the airport and I love the hostel. Its family run and had a great breakfast included. I am sharing a room with a girl from the US who is on a year fellowship jazz tour around the world. She got this amazing fellowship worth 25,000 to go around the world and document her interest in jazz. We had a great talk over breakfast and the guy is going to take us for a tour of Lima later today and has a great place for ceviche, my favorite, so that will be great. All in all, I am alive and well and I borrowed shampoo to wash my yucky hair and get rid of the stale feeling I had. Hopefully all will be right with the world and my bag tomorrow and I will be off to a Wonder of the World!
Keep in touch...
