So, if you read my last entry, posted an hour ago, I sounded a bit so so down. Well, I cannot believe what just happened. When I left the LAN office for the last time this morning, no one had any idea what happened to my bag. 5 days had passed and it wasn´t in Lima, the next flight here wouldn´t arrive until 5pm, no flights came this morning or last night and the Arequipa airport didn´t open until noon and I was leaving via bus at noon. So, I resigned myself to the fact that I was never going to recover my bag and I needed to buy at least one pair of pants. I no have athlete´s foot from the experience and enough is enough. It was my fault I left it on the plane in Lima (big surprise after 9 hours in the same plane in 3 cities). Some things just don´t work out. I did all I possibly could in every way and so did the great people in the LAN office.
The other crazy thing is nothing opens before 830 and most things open at 10. A very different reality indeed. So, I had to wait for any clothing store to open. So with my remaining hour here, I was looking for some inexpensive pants, which don´t seem to exist. $30 for everything I found and the pants I lost I got in an amazing deal at Liz Claiborne for $7 each. Yes, I am very thrifty people!
Anyway, I was resigning myself to buy a pair of brown pants when my cell phone rang. By the way, I don´t know why I broke down and rented one, but thank God that I did. It has proved invaluable. It saved me with the arriving late-hostal situation. Anyway, it was ringing and it was a local number. It was the agent at the LAN office! She had my bag....and it was at the LAN office only a few blocks away! It took me a few moments to really believe it. I mean honestly. It was just too good to be true, maybe I heard her wrong. However, a miracle happen. My bag was not in Lima and not even at the Arequipa airport, but in the LAN office and I was able to get it an hour before I was to leave. I mean it wasn´t even checked baggage. It had no record. No name on it. People lose entire suitcases and I was blessed with my plastic bag of dirty clothes delivered practically to me! What abundant and overflowing blessing. More than I could have imagined. I had given up and then bamm, not so fast. I still can´t believe it.
So they found the bag and put my name on it and sent it to Arequipa with one of the few flights able to land in the last week and somehow they got it and then actually brought it into the city to the office and she kept my number and viola, I have it now. No real explanation. I knew it was a very long shot to begin with but these large blessings do happen. I´m sure you are thinking...um it´s just a bit of dirty clothes, but when you travel with 3 pair of socks and a couple of pants and lose almost all of them, it becomes a bigger deal. The small things do matter. Routine is so key. Put things back in the same place etc. It is a lifesaver. So anyway, I am leaving on a sunny day with all my items. God is good! Abundantly creative. Abundantly faithful.
Me of little faith, when all hope is lost. I am healthy and happy and blessed beyond measure. I pray that you have moments of joy in your life when you cannot fix or do anything yourself, but you must completely rely on grace. It is then that we receive in great measure. Okay off to the bus terminal to see what more I can experience in this life.
