Trusted Taxi Drivers

So I am now in Ilo, a town 45 minutes from the Chilean border on the coast. It is very warm here. A nice departure from the cold, but it does take some adjustment. I am staying with a wonderful family that has been a great change from the distant hotel-hostel life.

However, I have one other venture to relay to you about my continued challenges. Somehow I get myself into and out of these situations, but it astounds even me. I continue to be thankful for my returned clothing. Its funny how happy I was to see them. A joyful reunion. When you have so little it is easy to be thankful.

Anyway, I was left the hostel and caught a taxi to the bus station in Arequipa. The town has narrow streets and tons of taxis. The traffic in the center is heavy, which was good in this case. I looked for a good driver, whatever that looks like for a few mometns and I guess it was worth it, because a few minutes into it, I looked for my bus ticket and realized I had not retrieved my passport etc from the hotel safe. I had only 40 minutes to get to the station which was at least 10 or 15 minutes away. So we made our way back to the hostel, I jumped out and left my main bag in the taxi. He said he would be waiting for me. I go my stuff and ran back, hoping that he was the good kind that would still be there.....he was. Such a great guy. He actually lectured me about not looking at the name and number of the cab because some may have left with my stuff. Anyway, we made it to the station with 5 minutes to spare and I had my seat and I was on my way. There are so many little details to constantly remember. It is crazy. So here is another testimony to people´s good character and my blessed existence.

I will be here until Christy comes sometime this week. I am enjoying being part of a family and relaxing. Peace to you.
