Update on Kenya

As you know. I am planning to spend about 5 weeks in the Great Lakes region of Kenya, near Kisumu. This is the area where much of the violence took place over the contested elections last month. It is a very sad situation that has put Kenya back 10 years in many ways. I am still planning to go, but I thought I would share some photos and an email that I recieved from the Bishop of a very large community there that I am going to visit. If you´d like to help them in some way let me know and I can put you in contact with him. He has a bank account that can receive donations. No expectation, only the offer if you have interest. Of course continued prayer for a swift resolution to the situation and peace can prevail. Even now the peacekeepers in the Sudan have been attacked. It is time for a stronger response from the world. As I think about going back to Rwanda who is still recovering from their genocide, I pray that the world can do what we did not do for them and be swift about creating peace in the region. It is difficult to be an aware and compassionate person at times, but at the very least we can be in solidarity with those who suffer and struggle for life.

Dear Laura,May God’s blessings continue to rest upon you.Thank you for your email of 3rd January 2008. it hasnot been easy to access the internet because ofdestruction and insecurity that has been there inKisumu hence the delay in response. Things are nowgoing back to normal. It will now be much safer to return to Nairobi fromKigali by Air and then travel to Kisumu by air aswell. This is because if this post election of thepresidential race is not resolved soon then coming toKigali by road will be unsafe. As a family we are safe. However as a church we havesome of our members houses burned down for supportingparties which were not acceptable in Western Kenya. See sampled photographs attached. They losteverything in fire. These families are now in dire need of food, blankets, mosquito nets, clothings and shelters. We need yourprayer support and any support in kind.

Yours in the Lord’s service, Bishop Joshua A. Koyo

I'm responding to at least your last two blog postings.

What a story! I believe the Arequipa posting (actually your entire journey) proves the power of prayer and the love and mercy of God. Your angels have been working overtime and obviously many have been holding you up in prayer. Praise God from whom all blessing flow!

Your story would make an unbelievable Hollywood movie. Maybe you could sell the rights for millions and send the proceeds to Bishop Koyo in Kisumu. I would ask everyone to at least pray for Bishop Koya and his parishioners and encourage them to consider supporting the needs of his community financially. Hopefully you will get requests on how to contact the Bishop. I look forward to hearing from him on how we can contribute to the needs of his parishioners.

Love, Dad
